Items taught in class:  the different tools used in glass cutting and fusing, studio safety, glass properties, and firing techniques.

2 week class

Friday July 25^th, 2008  1pm-5pm  &  Thursday July 31^st between 2pm-6pm

In this class students will learn the fundamentals of making, building, firing, and painting clay tiles.  On the first day students will learn how to make their own decorative clay tiles using stamps.  They will then learn how to use clay molds to build dimensional items.  Efrat will also teach students how to make dimensional embellishments through the use of stamps and clay rolling and building techniques.

Ample time will be given to explore and practice these techniques, and students will then be able to build a decorative dimensional tile of their own design.

On the 2^nd week of the workshop, students will learn how to paint and glaze their fired bisque pieces.

Friday August 22, 2008 10am-5pm

On day one of this workshop students will learn how to make their own clay tiles.  Instructions will be given on clay properties, stamping, and mold use techniques.  Students will also learn how to lay out their tiles in an artful and decoratively mosaic fashion.  Attention will be given to tile design, structure, and layout.

On day two of the workshop, students will return to the studio and will learn how to paint and glaze their fired bisque pieces.

On day three of the workshop, students will paint and assemble their box structure.  They will adhere their twice fired clay tiles, and will go home with a beautifully adorned box befitting any number of treasures!
